Chemistry Seminar with Dr. Emil Hernández-Pagán from the University of Deleware at 4:00pm

Dr. Emil Hernández-Pagán from the University of Deleware will be visiting our department on April 21st and giving a seminar titled "Insights into the halide-driven polymorph control in the synthesis of metal chalcogenide"

Emil Hernández-Pagán obtained his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus, where he worked with Prof. Miguel Castro on the synthesis of silver nanowires. He then moved to Penn State University for graduate school and received his PhD under the guidance of Prof. Tom Mallouk. His PhD work focused on the synthesis and characterization of one-dimensional structures for energy and sensing applications. Subsequently, he joined Prof. Janet Macdonald’s lab at Vanderbilt University for postdoctoral studies on semiconductor-metal hybrid nanoparticles. Following this experience, Emil decided to be closer to his family and explore a career in industry, accepting a job in the biopharmaceutical company Amgen in Puerto Rico. After 4 years he returned to the Macdonald lab at Vanderbilt University to resume his academic career and pursue his long-life dream of becoming a professor. He then returned to Penn State University as an Eberly postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Ray Schaak conducting research in the synthesis of hybrid nanoparticles. In 2020, Emil started his independent career as assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Delaware. Outside the lab, Emil is an avid runner and triathlete.
